PROCRASTINATION! How To Get Started Painting??

Doddling and procrastinating!  Need to get some painting done for our June Exhibition!!  Instead of getting organised and starting to paint I have been doing the odd doodle - usually a drawing of an existing art work from a book or magazine!  Anyone else have the same problem getting started!

Life Drawing Resumed - Session Six

The Life Drawing Class had our sixth session this evening at the gallery.  Still very hot even at 7pm but once we got going we got into the drawing mode again.  These are two sketches.  I didn't complete them - would have needed longer or repeat of pose but am happy enough for the satge I am at.  Tried the coloured pastels over a charcoal outline drawing and got an undefined figure which I think I could have made more detailed given the time.  It is still a lot of fun.  I think the class will be on again next week.  I 'm not going any more for now as I need to get started on painting for the Cooktown School of Art Society Annual Exhibition that is held in June.  For any locals interested in doing the Monday Life Darwing contact Tracey for details.

21st Century Kids Summer Festival on Tour DONE! See results!

21st Century Kids Summer Festival On Tour in Cooktown on Saturday 15th January 2011.

Kids made their own bird species using shredded paper and bird templates created by the artist..  These pictures show the wonderful results of a little imagination.  Each bird in it's nest was labeled with the birds name, habitat, foods eaten, and behaviours. Australian artist Fiona Hall translated her interest in the migratory patterns of birds and nest-making into a hands-on activity. I had a fun day assisting with this kids art activity.
See more birds nests and birds on Cooktown Art Facebook album and the Cooktown Art Blog.

An art activity by artist Tony Albert invited all earthlings to become honorary citizens of the Alien Nation — but not before passing the citizenship test! Those who complete the test and become citizens receive a special Alien Nation citizenship certificate and card to show that they are part of the Alien Nation.

Kids used Indian artist, Bharti Kher's specially designed bindis to decorate themselves.

Artist Jorge Méndez Blake invited kids to listen to a CD of swashbuckling sounds and draw a picture of what what they where hearing.

New Zealand artist Campbell Patterson had kids think of funny activities they could perform.  The kids were enthusiastic and the short video clips will be made into a performance art film to be uploaded to Cooktown Art Blog and Youtube!

Artist and poet John Pule had the kids drawing word paintings in a collaborative way on large art paper.

Inspired by a Brazilian tradition, artist Rivane Neuenschwander invited visitors to select and tie people’s wishes to their wrists. According to the tradition, the wish is granted when the ribbon eventually falls off.
Some put ribbons in their hair which looked great as well!

I found some Atelier Interactive Acrylic paints for a great price on eBay so got 10 tubes to extend my range of earthy colours.

See the website for more infor on these paints. These are all series one.  This is a dual purpose acrylic and can be used for traditional painting techniques like oil paints as it extendes the wet in wet blending ability.  I am still learning about how best to blend them and find in the tropics that being under a fan in the heat dries them very quickly but if I re-wet them in time they are able to be blended.

Many You-tube videos have instructions on how to use the acrylic paints in this way.  I have embeded one here you may find useful.

Cooktown Top Pub Painting in Acrylic - Highlights

Have started on the highlights on the Cooktown Top Pub painting and adding the sky and the light on the railing has lifted it so next will be the mid tones then more details.  It's fun to muck about with paints!

Acrylic Seascape - Ross Franzi Art Workshop Finished - Finally!

Have decided to stop now!  Of course I can see heaps more I could do to get a more finished painting but have taken this as far as I can.  If I keep working on it I'd need to re do some of the background so I think I'll see it as a lesson and next painting will apply some of the things I have learned- hopefully!
